Krista Kealey, 37
Ottawa International Airport Authority, Director, communications and public affairs
Biggest achievement: With no airport or transportation experience, I wrote and published the 2002 annual report within my first three months with the airport authority.
Best skill: My ability to communicate effectively.
Most admired businessperson: My ability to communicate effectively.
I admire Carol Stephenson, dean of the Richard Ivey School of Business. I have followed her career closely, starting when we both worked for Bell, and I have a great deal of respect for the manner in which she has conducted and advanced her career, particularly in male-dominated industries.
Biggest business lesson learned: Building relationships has been important in every aspect of my career. One of the most critical elements of a solid relationship is honesty. I've had situations arise during projects or sales that have impacted my ability to deliver, but I've been able to manage in spite of the difficulties by being open and honest with my clients and colleagues. It has allowed me to earn their respect and build the trust necessary to win business and move complex projects forward.
Favourite charity: The Snowsuit Fund is near and dear to my heart. Having just finished a two-year term as chairperson, I have had the opportunity to understand how the fund operates, the difference it makes in the lives of children and how to lead a charitable organization responsibly and effectively.
Professional recognition that would mean the most: I've been truly honoured by several colleagues over the years who have asked me to be a mentor to their daughters regarding their educational choices, professional goals and dreams for the future.
